#2 Rangers Defend The Den, Defeat Northern State 21-16

KENOSHA, Wis. — The second ranked Parkside wrestling team returned to the mat on Saturday evening, playing host to the Northern State Wolves. The Rangers came away victorious in a hard-fought battle 21-16. 

Twelfth ranked Shane Corrigan got things started with a win by a 12-6 decision. Corrigan fell behind in the initial seconds of the bout, but recovered with a reversal and four near fall points to take a 6-3 lead after the first three minutes. Corrigan added four more points in the second with an escape and a takedown. Johansen took Corrigan down one time in the third but it was not enough to stage a comeback. 

Fifth ranked Matthew Chi had the only tech fall win for the Rangers on Saturday, defeating Brenden Salfrank 21-4. Chi had six takedowns in the bout, including three in the final period. 

In one of two ranked bouts on Saturday, top ranked Cayden Henschel was able to defeat twelfth ranked Braydon Mogle 4-3 in a tiebreak. Henschel had the only takedown of regulation, but Mogle was able to score two points on escapes and a point for riding time to force overtime. Neither wrestler was able to secure a takedown in the first overtime. Henschel chose down in the next overtime period and was able to escape. He then held on when it was his turn to be on top to secure the victory. 

In the other ranked bout of the night, fourth ranked Wyatt Turnquist defeated eleventh ranked Easton Worachek by a 1-0 decision. An escape in the second period was the difference in the bout. 

Seventh ranked Ben Durocher closed out the first half of the dual strong defeating Griffin Lundeen by a 5-1 decision. Durocher secured the only takedown of the bout in the first period. He then held on to secure the win. 

Ninth ranked Dajun Johnson earned critical points with a 4-1 win by decision over Isaak Hunsley. He scored the only takedown of the bout in the first period and he picked up a point on an escape in the third.

Third ranked Reece Worachek secured the second bonus point win for Parkside, winning by a 10-1 major decision. After a scoreless first, Worscheck scored four points in the second on an escape and a takedown. He scored six points in the third with a takedown, two near fall points and a bonus point for riding time. 

Tyson Lein defeated Jordan Blanchard by a 4-2 decision thanks to a third period takedown. 

Nathan Schauer defeated seventh rankedLloyd Reynolds by a 14-4 major decision to close out the night. 

Parkside will now prepare for a big road trip to Minnesota that will feature two duals. The Rangers will open the trip against Minnesota State on Thursday January 30th at 7:00pm.
