Rangers Drop Road Battle to Davenport

Grand Rapids, MI – The Parkside Rangers wrapped up a two-game road trip with a battle against the Davenport Panthers on Saturday. Parkside struggled from the field and never found their groove, dropping the conference contest 57-51.

Inside the box score:

  • Cassidy Arni contributed across the board, scoring a team-high 14 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and adding three assists and three steals.
  • Kendal Zeiter scored in double figures for the third time this season, netting 12 in the contest.

How it happened:
The game between Parkside and Davenport was close-knit from start to finish. Within the first five seconds of the game, the Rangers controlled the tip and gave way to Cassidy Arni, who scored an easy deuce. However, a seven-to-two Panther run put Davenport ahead and set the tone for the game. Parkside finally regained the lead with just 2:25 to play in the first quarter, as Kendal Zeiter converted her first points of the game. After Jaelyn Derlein sank the lone Parkside triple in the first quarter, the score was even at 13 after one.

Parkside and Davenport once again went back and forth in the second quarter, with no team able to pull away from the other. For Parkside, Chloe Van Zeeland began to heat up, scoring six of her 10 points in the second quarter alone. As the quarter developed, Parkside built their largest lead of the game, 22-14, with 5:45 to go in the half, but quickly saw the lead diminish. Arni ended the half with a bang, nailing a go-ahead triple and boosting Parkside ahead 27-24 at the half.

Sheridan Flauger opened the third quarter by delivering a three-pointer and her first points of the contest. Arni followed up with a three-point make of her own, and Parkside was back up 33-26. In fact, Parkside maintained a seven-point lead until the 3:30 mark of the third quarter, but once again, Davenport stormed back. Parkside led by just one heading to the fourth.

The fourth quarter was Parkside's worst scoring quarter of the game. They shot just 14% from the field and zero-of-eight from beyond the arc. They were outscored 17-10 and dropped the game. This marks the first time all season that Parkside has lost two straight games, and they fell to 11-6 on the season.
