Grayslake, IL - In the final game of the four game series, the Parkside Rangers were defeated by the Wayne State Warriors on Sunday afternoon. Despite out-hitting the Warriors, the Rangers lost the nine inning battle 6-4.
How it happened:
The game began with three scoreless innings of baseball. Peter Fusek got the nod and toed the rubber in the series finale for the Rangers. However, in the fourth inning the Warriors finally broke the ice. They knocked Fusek out of the game after bringing a run across in the top of the third. After Fusek's exit, the Warriors added another and led 2-0.
Parkside got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Angel Rades scored on a throwing error. The Warriors proceeded to get the run right back in the top of the fifth. They possessed a two run advantage at the midway point of the ballgame.
However, the Rangers did not go down with a fight in this game. In the sixth inning, the team rallied to tie the game. Emanuel Andujar Ferreira and John St. Clair got the Rangers rolling with back-to-back singles to start the inning. After the two got into scoring position, Jude Allen reached on an error that brought home both runners to tie the game at three. The game was knotted at three runs each.
In the seventh inning, the Warriors scored a pair of runs and jumped out to a 5-3 lead. The Rangers responded with a run in the home half. Peter Fusek hit a sacrifice-fly to right field, scoring Koto Sato and it was a one run game, 5-4.
The Warriors tagged along another run in the top of eighth and it would prove to be enough. Parkside stranded the tying runs on base in the eighth inning, and went down in order in the ninth inning.
On the mound, Parkside had 5.2 innings out of their bullpen. Nathan Ciemny, Noah Gerritson, Austin Grube, and Leo Burger combined to allow just one earned run within that span. Even though Gerriston did not allow an earned run, he was credited with the loss in the game. Parkside dropped to 15-18 overall and 4-11 in GLIAC play.
