Kenosha, Wis - The Parkside Rangers played in a non-conference battle with the Viterbo V-Hawks on Tuesday afternoon. In a game that featured 26 total runs, Parkside edged out Viterbo 14-12 to secure their third straight win.
How it happened:
In the high scoring battle at Augie Schmidt Field, Parkside possessed the lead all the way until the eighth inning. Viterbo struck for two runs in the top of the eighth and gained a one-run lead. Parkside exploded for seven runs in the bottom half and held off another strong pursuit in the ninth to win the ballgame.
The scoring started early for the Rangers. With the wind blowing out to right field, Emanuel Andujar Ferreira took advantage. Andujar clubbed his first home run of the season over the right field fence to give Parkside the 2-0 from the get-go.
Peter Fusek, who was the star all afternoon long, added onto Parkside's lead in the second inning. He slapped a base hit into right field to score Jared Heinzen. Parkside had a 3-1 lead after the first two innings.
After Viterbo tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, Parkside had an answer. Parkside loaded up the bases with nobody out, and Peter Fusek cashed Jared Heinzen in once again. This time on a sacrifice fly. However, that would be the only run Parkside would get in the inning.
Fast forward to the fifth inning, Koto Sato came through for Parkside with a few insurance runs. Sato smoked a two-run shot over the center field fence to give Parkside a 6-3 lead after five innings.
In the sixth inning Viterbo got a run back. However, Andrew Harris was able to provide his first hit of the contest. Harris smoked a single up the middle and drove in Peter Fusek. Parkside led by three-runs after six innings of baseball.
After Viterbo hit a pair of solo shots in the seventh, they finally made their push and took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning. They led 8-7 headed to the home half of the eighth inning.
Parkside exploded for seven runs in the frame. The game was tied up as Carter Storti came off the bench and walked with the bases loaded. An error in the field by Viterbo gave Parkside two more runs, and John St. Clair provided the blow. He ripped a two-run base hit into center field and drove home both Andrew Harris and Carter Storti. Parkside led 14-8 going into the ninth inning.
Viterbo made a push in the ninth and even brought the tying run to the plate. However, Peter Fusek entered and slammed the door. Fusek recorded the final two outs and earned the save. Leo Burger notched the victory and eight Parkside pitchers combined to take down Viterbo. Parkside secured their third straight victory and they have evened their record at 7-7.
