ABERDEEN, SD – The No. 4 ranked Parkside wrestling team concluded the road swing on Saturday afternoon, taking on the No. 18 ranked Northern State Wolves. Parkside remained unbeaten in duals this season, downing the Wolves 22-10.
No. 3 ranked
Shane Corrigan opened the night by getting a three-point takedown plus riding time in the third period to secure the 11-9 decision over Landen Fischer.
No. 6
Matthew Chi won a physical battle with Jason Henschel in the 133 lb bout. The two needed overtime to determine a winner, and it was Chi who was able to get a takedown to secure the 8-5 sudden victory.
No. 2
Cayden Henschel kept the Ranger run going. Henschel picked up a close-fought 4-2 win over Braydon Mogle. Cayden had the only takedown of the contest which came in the first period.
No. 12
Jalen Spuhler came up with a huge win at 149 lbs. He was able to defeat No. 2 ranked Wyatt Turnquist by a 5-1 decision. Spuhler had a big takedown in the third period to help secure the win.
Ben Durocher had the only bonus point win for Parkside on the night, winning by a 13-4 major decision over Chase Bloomquist. He had four takedowns in the match, picking up four points for Parkside, giving the Rangers a 16-0 lead after five matches.
Northern State started to fight back following the intermission, winning by a decision at 165, and a major decision at 174.
No. 8
Reece Worachek got the momentum back on the Parkside side in the 184 lb bout. He was able to down Sam Kruger by a narrow 4-2 decision. There was just one takedown in the match, with Worachek making it happen in the third period.
Northern State took one more bout by decision at 197, but
Lloyd Reynolds was able to close out the Ranger win with a 9-5 win by decision over Nathan Schauer. Reynolds had an escape and two third-period takedowns to secure the win.
With the win, the Rangers have won 20 straight duals dating back to last season. Parkside now is set for a showdown with No. 5 ranked St. Cloud State. With a win over St. Cloud, Parkside would secure their second straight NSIC regular season title.
