Parkside Falls in Final Two Games of the Rosemont Dome Tournament

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Parkside softball team played in their final two games of the annual Rosemont Dome Tournament on Sunday. The Rangers first took on William Jewell in a close 4-3 loss. They would turnaround to face Lewis and fall 7-0.

Game One
The Rangers started hot in game one but couldn't hold on to the lead they had put together. Ellie Curtis would pitch the full length of the game for Parkside, striking out four and allowing four runs on six hits. Mia Johnson would swing a hot bat offensively, as all three of the Rangers' runs would be produced by Johnson. She would finish the game 1-2 in three plate appearances.

Parkside would start hot in the first inning. The Rangers first and second batters in Taylor Delgado and Cassie Rutledge would reach base to set the table for Mia Johnson. Johnson would single through the left side and both Delgado and Rutledge would cross the play to give the Rangers the early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning the Rangers would strike again. Once again it would come from the bat of Mia Johnson as she would send a sacrifice fly out to center field to allow Delgado to score again. The score would move to 3-0.

William Jewell would produce some runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Cardinals would plate three runs on just two hits and a Ranger error. The game would go to the fourth inning with the score tied at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth inning a Cardinal one out triple would put a runner in scoring position. The next batter for William Jewell would put the ball in play to allow the run to score giving the Cardinals the 4-3 lead. The score would stand as the final, as the Rangers failed to produce a run in the final two innings of play.

Game Two
Parkside would ride with the pitching combination of KC Shickel and Olivia Masnica. Shickel would get the start and toss the first 2.1 innings until Masnica came on in releif. Between the two of them the Rangers would allow 13 hits and strike out just two Flyer batters. The Rangers had a tough time producing runs against the Flyers as they would account for eight hits, but failed to push a run across the plate. Haley Remington and Megan Medlin would both lead the team with two hits a piece.

The Flyers posted runs in the first, third, and sixth innings of the game totaling seven runs in all The Rangers best opportunity to score came in the top of the second inning as a Toni Rodriguez two out double would put two runners in scoring position. But with two outs the odds were stacked against them as the Flyers would retire the side with no damage done. The final score would end 7-0 in the Flyers' favor.
