The battle between Lewis and Parkside began as a high-scoring, fast-paced contest. Peighton Nelson got the Rangers on the board with a clean pull-up jumper. Chloe Van Zeeland followed by scoring the next four points for Parkside. However, Lewis continued strong in the first quarter, opening a 16-8 lead. Van Zeeland then connected on back-to-back three-pointers, jolting energy into the Rangers. Jaelyn Derlein capped an 8-0 run with a triple, tying the game at 19 after the first quarter.
The momentum shifted in the second quarter, where the Rangers struggled offensively, shooting just 3-11 from the field and scoring nine points. Despite this, their physical and aggressive defense held Lewis to 15 points. The low-scoring trend continued into the third quarter, which Lewis narrowly edged 11-10. Parkside entered the fourth quarter looking revitalized. Trailing 51-41, they staged a spirited comeback. Van Zeeland sparked the rally, scoring six straight points and dominating both inside and from the perimeter. Lillie Petersen and Sheridan Flauger added clutch three-pointers, bringing the Rangers within six at 54-48.
Defensive intensity kept the game close. Buckets from Van Zeeland and Flauger trimmed the deficit to 56-55 with five minutes remaining. A three-minute scoring drought ensued before Lewis restored a six-point cushion. Flauger responded with a tear-drop shot, drawing a foul and converting the free throw. Cassidy Arni then meandered through traffic for a crucial layup, cutting the deficit to one point, 62-61, with 22 seconds left.
