Rangers Season Comes to a Close in GLIAC Quarterfinal

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Parkside women's soccer team opened postseason play on Tuesday evening against No. 2 seeded Grand Valley State. The Rangers battled the Lakers to a 1-0 loss, concluding their 2024 season.

"I'm so proud of the team's performance tonight. We played really well but unfortunately we couldn't find that one goal we needed to extend the game. We've dealt with many injuries this season but it forced us to grow and adapt in ways we will be stronger for in the future. Right now I'm sad for our five amazing seniors but happy they ended the season playing some great soccer," said head coach Brittany Nikolic following the match.

Inside the Box Score
  • Despite the loss the Rangers offense produced 13 shots to the Lakers 10. Both teams put six shots on goal.
  • Lola Minic ends her tremendous freshman season after a five save effort. She now moves into second place for single season saves at 99.
  • Emily Mikkelson led the way for the Rangers offense, putting up a team high five shots on the evening and landing two on frame.

How it Happened
The Rangers came out of the gates hungry, forcing three GVSU saves within the first 20 minutes of play. Despite Parkside's offensive push the Lakers were able to take advantage of a set piece opportunity in the 40th minute of play and notch a goal to give themselves the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Parkside would spend the entire second half searching for the equalizer. The Rangers offense would put up six second half shots, while also limiting GVSU to just two. Despite out shooting the Lakers the Rangers were unable to find the answer and would fall to the Lakers.

The loss ends the Rangers 2024 season. The Rangers finish the year with a 5-9-5 overall record and a 3-6-5 record in GLIAC play.
