9/27/2023 9:15:00 AM

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Rangers enter this weekend's action after two great victories over the previous weekend. The Rangers topped St. Cloud State and Northern Michigan over the weekend and racked up three goals between the two games. The winning weekend was capped off by centerback captain Mike Howell receiving GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Howell was able to lead the backline to two clean sheets over the weekend.

Ahead for the Rangers are two more GLIAC matches, this time on the road. On Friday, Parkside will square off against Saginaw Valley State. The Rangers will then travel to Davenport and take on the Panthers on Sunday. Both matches will be streamed live on FloSports.

SCOUTING SAGINAW VALLEY

The Rangers will come into town against a 3-2-3 overall Cardinal squad. In the GLIAC, the Cardinals sit just below the Rangers in the standings at 1-0-2. Most recently, Saginaw squared off against Davenport this past Sunday in a scoreless draw. The lone GLIAC win the Cardinals have picked up was against Northern Michigan back on Sept. 17 1-0.

Saginaw comes in with nine goals on the season. They also average 12.4 shots per game. Majority of the Cardinals goals have come from junior forward Jonathan Monney as he has five goals to his name and 11 points up to this point. The next closest goal scorer is senior forward Jayden Cameron with two goals and three points on the year.

Defensively, junior Jack Simms has racked up majority of the minutes between the posts for the Cardinals with 540 so far this season. Simms holds the credit for the team's three wins this season and three clean sheets.

Currently the overall record between the two sides sits at 4-4-4. The most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw at University Center.

SCOUTING DAVENPORT

The Panthers will enter the weekend 2-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in GLIAC play. In their most recent matchup, Davenport drew with Saginaw Valley State in a scoreless affair. In terms of GLIAC standings, the Panthers are currently tied with PNW for the third position out of six total teams in the conference for men's soccer.

Offensively the Panthers are led by Eoin Broughan and Vitalis Takawira Jr as both led the team with three goals thus far. The Panthers rely on individual playmaking as of the nine total goals scored by the squad, only three of them have been assisted. Cam Power leads Davenport in that category with two assists this season.

On the defensive side Davenport has relied heavily upon Bobby Curran. In the five matches he has appeared in, Curran has conceded six goals and faced 70 shots. Curran does have the Panthers' lone shutout to his name.

History favors the Rangers but in the most recent outing between the two sides the Panthers put up three goals and shut out the Rangers in a statement win back in Nov. 2022. The Rangers will look to avenge that loss this upcoming Sunday.
