KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside men's soccer team closed the weekend on Sunday, taking on the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Rangers were able to pick up the win, with
Lars Popp heading home an 80th-minute goal to down the Wildcats 1-0.
Daniyal Rana and the Parkside defense picked up their second consecutive clean sheet, allowing just five shots on net. Rana made four saves in the contest for Parkside.
Parkside controlled most of the first half, allowing just four Northern Michigan shots. The Rangers generated several good looks, but Wildcat keeper Florian Palmowski kept the game scoreless, making three saves.
The pace of the contest picked up considerably in the second half with both teams searching for the opening goal. Parkside was finally able to break through in the 80th minute.
Matteo Quintero lifted a corner kick into the box where Popp was able to head it inside the left post for the game-winning goal.
The Rangers improved to 4-1-2 overall on the season and 2-0-1 in GLIAC play. Parkside will return to action on Friday, September 29 at Saginaw Valley State. Links to coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
