Rangers Split Home Opener with Wayne State

The Parkside softball team opened their weekend home stand with a doubleheader against the Wayne State Warriors. The Rangers offense got out to a hot start in game one, hitting four home runs on the way to a blowout victory in the home opener. The second game's offensive momentum swung in favor of the Warriors, as the visiting team combined for four home runs to earn the split for the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
The Rangers got on the board in the bottom half of the first with a 2 RBI double from Megan Medlin.
 

 
The Warriors got the runs right back in the top of the second, as they got two RBI singles. Cassie Rutledge broke the tie with a 2 RBI home run in the bottom of the second.
 

 
Then came the third inning, where the Rangers offense exploded. Mia Johnson started it off with a solo home run to right center.
 

 
Shortly after Tia Livernash hit a double to left center, scoring Haley Remington and Jadynn Powell. In the next at bat, Eden Welling hit a 2 RBI home run to further the Ranger lead to 9-2.
 

 

 
In the fourth inning, the Warriors bounced back from a scoreless third inning, picking up two runs to bring the score to 9-4. In the bottom of the fifth, the Rangers added to their lead as Rutledge continued her stellar swinging with another two RBI home run.
 

 
The Rangers kept their momentum and scored their final run to earn the 12-4 blowout victory at the bottom of the sixth thanks to a Haley Remington triple in which Medlin scored.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
The Warriors responded well after a lackluster Game 1 and came out swinging as they scored three in the first inning and followed up with a grand slam in the second to jump out to an early 8-0 lead. The bats stayed hot in the third as the Warriors added two runs. The Rangers kept quiet through the fourth and at the top of the fifth the Warriors added an additional two runs making the score 0-12. At the bottom of the fifth the Rangers got on the board with a solo home run by Dani Evans before concluding the game with the final score of 12-1.
