Bats Come Alive in Game Two To Earn Split

KANSAS CITY --- The Parkside Rangers baseball team closed out the weekend series with the Rockhurst Hawks on Sunday afternoon. Under sunny skies, the Rangers would split the day, falling 5-1 in the opener before recovering with a 15-6 win in game two.

GAME ONE
The pitching staff gave Parkside a chance in game one, where they allowed just two earned runs on five hits. Rockhurst plated three unearned runs in the first, getting two hits and a timely passed ball on a strikeout.

Rockhurst added another run in the bottom of the third on two hits to extend the lead to 4-0. The Hawks then made it 5-0 in the fourth when a walk and a stolen base came back to bite the Rangers.

Parkside scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth. With two outs Jared Heinzen singled to right center, then advanced to second on a balk. Max Bruff then delivered, hitting an 0-1 pitch back up the middle scoring Heinzen.

The Rangers were able to load the bases in the sixth, but were unable to rally, falling 5-1 in the opener. Ryan Brouch went 2-3 for Parkside in the opener to lead the offense. Noah Gerritson took the loss, working three and a third innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Maguire Delagrave worked two and two thirds innings of relief and only allowed one hit while striking out two.

GAME TWO
The offense was alive for the Rangers in game two, Parkside scored 15 runs on 18 hits in route to the 15-6 win. The 18 hits are the most in a single game since the team recorded 21 in a win over Indianapolis on April 15, 2017.

Parkside got the scoring started in the top of the second. A walk and a single got things going, and a Patrick Connolly double to left scored the first run of the game. A sac fly followed scoring another. Two straight Rockhurst errors allowed another run to cross, making it 3-0 Rangers. Still not done in the inning, Andrew Harris singled through the left side on a 1-0 pitch, scoring Bryce Inman. Daniel Llanas then kept his strong weekend going with an RBI single, making it 5-0 Parkside.

The Rangers extended the lead in the top of the third. A walk and a wild pitch put Inman in scoring position. Then it was Heinzen with the single up the middle making it 6-0. The Hawks got a trio of runs back in the bottom half of the third on a three-run homer to left.

Parkside answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Emanueal Andujar started the inning off with a bang, lifting an 0-2 pitch over the wall in right center. The Rangers were able to record four more hits in the inning, getting RBI singles from Angel Rades and Harris.

The offense kept putting pressure on in the fifth, where the Rangers plated a run on a Connolly single to right center. The Rangers then added another on a wild pitch. Rockhurst got two back in the bottom half, but the Rangers answered again in the sixth.

Llanas and Ryan Brouch drove home runs in the inning to extend the lead to 13-5. Parkside then added two more in the seventh, with Llanas and Andujar recording RBIs.

Harris, Llanas, Brouch, and Connolly all recorded three hits in the contest. Andujar recorded two hits and four walks in the game and scored three runs. Five different pitchers threw in the game for the Rangers. Andrew Sumner and Kaleb Schulist each worked a scoreless inning on the mound.
