Ferris State 72, Parkside 64
The Parkside women's basketball team hosted the Ferris State Bulldogs in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament. The Rangers battled hard, but a depleted lineup would ultimately run out of gas late in the game and fall to the Bulldogs, ending Parkside's GLIAC tournament run prematurely.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got out to an early 6-2 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game at 6-6. The Bulldogs would get their first lead of the game, jumping ahead 13-12 with 3:00 minutes to go in the quarter. After pulling ahead by four, the Rangers closed the gap and tying the game to end the quarter at 18-18.
Alyssa Nelson led the Rangers with 11 points in the opening quarter.
Sheridan Flauger grabbed three rebounds.
The Bulldogs took back the lead to open the second quarter, but their lead was quickly erased by
Grace Lomen at the free throw line. Flauger scored on a driving layup to put the Rangers back on top 22-20. A contested three for
Lamija Coric extended the Rangers lead to five. Chloe Idoni kept the Bulldogs in the game, scoring seven of the Bulldogs first nine points in the quarter. The Rangers built their lead to six with a free throw from
Maja Leidefors. The Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to end the half, and brought the Rangers lead down to 32-31.
Idoni put the Bulldogs back in the lead to start the third quarter, albeit a short-lived lead as Nelson took the lead right back after a pair of free throws. A steal from
Kendal Zeiter led to an and-one score for
Grace Lomen. The Rangers built their lead to 37-34 with seven minutes to play in the quarter. A three would bring the Bulldogs back within one, before Zeiter scored an and-one layup to convert the three-point play. The Bulldogs converted on back-to-back plays to get back on top. The Rangers then scored on back-to-back plays to jump back out in front of the Bulldogs by two points. Zeiter put the Rangers up by four after drawing the foul on a driving layup attempt. A three from Coric would put the Rangers up 50-45 at the end of the third quarter. Nelson led the Rangers with 19 points after three quarters.
The Bulldogs opened the quarter on a 7-0 run to take the lead. A layup from Zeiter would tie the game back up at 52-52. The Bulldogs proceeded to build their lead to six points. Nelson ended the run with a contested layup, cutting the lead to four. The Bulldogs answered right back, but a deep three from Lomen would cut into the lead again. The Rangers cut the deficit to two after a pair of free throws from Flauger. A three from Grace Sullivan would build the Bulldog lead back to five with two minutes to go, only for Nelson to answer with a three of her own to bring it right back. Free throws would give the Bulldogs a five-point lead with 54 seconds to go in the game. Zeiter would make a free throw to cut the lead to five. The Rangers would be forced to foul the rest of the way and would not be able to make up the deficit as the Bulldogs pulled off the upset in De Simone.

Nelson gave it her all in her De Simone Arena finale, ending with 24 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Lomen ended the night with ten points and eight rebounds. Zeiter also ended with ten points, along with two rebounds, a steal, and a block. Idoni led the Bulldogs to victory with 27 points.
