Rangers Fall In Season Opening Matchups

SMYRNA, Tenn. --- The Parkside Softball program opened the 2023 season on Friday morning, with the Rangers taking on Trevecca Nazarene and Findlay University. The Rangers struggled to get the bats going in the opening games, falling to Trevecca 10-1 and Findlay 8-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
-   Kiley Akey was the best bat offensively for Parkside, going 3-4 over the first two games.
-   Taylor Delgado had a triple and a run scored in the opener against TNU.
-   Olivia Masnica worked a clean inning of relief in the opening game.

Trevecca Nazarene struck first in the season opener, plating six runs on five hits. The Rangers got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when a wild pitch brought home Delgado who led off the inning by ripping a 1-2 pitch into right-center for a triple.

Olivia Fee came on in relief for Parkside in the circle and kept the Trevecca offense at bay for the next few innings, but TNU was able to extend their lead in the fourth. The Trojans scored three runs on three hits in the inning, making it a 9-1 TNU advantage. Trevecca added one unearned run in the fifth before handing Parkside the 10-1 season-opening defeat.

Finlay scored first in the second game of the day, pushing across two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Parkside was unable to get the bats going and made a couple of costly errors in the field which allowed Findlay to push across five unearned runs over the next few innings, ultimately leading to an 8-0 win for the Oilers over the Rangers.

The Rangers will return to action on Saturday afternoon with two games at Cedar Stone Park. The first of the two will come at 11:00am against Tiffin. Links to coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
