SIOUX FALLS, SD — The No. 7 Parkside wrestling team opened up the conference dual season on Saturday afternoon, taking on the No. 18 ranked Augustana Vikings. The Rangers would battle, picking up the conference opening win by a 23-14 win.
"Wasn't our prettiest performance and Augustana came ready to compete," remarked Head Coach Nick Becker. . "They always do. Even though we got the win there was definitely disappointment in the locker room afterwards. The guys who didn't look great will use it as a learning experience. We will move on and look to be better tomorrow against USF."
The Rangers started down early when No. 3 ranked Shane Corrigan lost to No. 1 ranked Jaxson Rohman by a 9-7 decision.
Parkside got back on track, with Matthew Chi winning by an 18-1 tech fall. The Rangers lead then expanded to 11-3 when there was a forfeit at 141lbs.
After the Rangers fell at 149lbs, Parkside was able to rattle off nine straight points. Ben Durocher started the scoring, winning a tight 4-2 decision. No. 8 ranked Brady Schuh then won an 8-4 decision and Brody Hemauer won by a 9-4 decision.
Cade Mueller won a close 3-2 match with Reece Worachek in the tie break to pull within 20-9. Augustana pulled within 20-14 with a tech fall at 197.
Lloyd Reynolds sealed the victory for the Rangers, picking up a 5-1 decision.
