Preview: GLIAC Semifinal at Wood Road Against SVSU

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside men's soccer team returns to the pitch this Saturday for playoff soccer at Wood Road Soccer Field. The top seeded Rangers will play host to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinal match.

No. 1 Parkside vs. No. 5 Saginaw Valley State

SCOUTING SAGINAW VALLEY STATE 

SVSU topped St. Cloud State in penatly kicks on Oct. 28 to advance to the Semifinal match. The match was scoreless through the initial 90 minutes and the 20 minutes of overtime. The Cardinals topped the Huskies in the shootout 4-3 and now find themselves in the Semifinal match. 

The last time these two matched up it was the final regular season match for both programs. The Rangers topped the Cardinals in a shutout 3-0 to clinch the GLIAC Regular Season championship.  

The Rangers are 6-3-3 against the Cardinals since joining the GLIAC and are unbeaten in the last six meetings between the two programs. The last time the Cardinals topped the Rangers was back in March of 2021 during the Covid season.  

The Cardinals have scored just six goals in GLIAC play this season and are lead by Elliot Nottoli and Mzo Mthembu, each with two goals a apiece in conference play. Jack Simms is the number one goalkeeper for the Cardinals playing in seven GLIAC matches and claiming three clean sheets during conference play.
