Rangers Finish Regular Season Play With a 5-2 Win Over PNW

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Parkside women's soccer team traveled down to Purdue Northwest to face off against the Pride for their final regular season match up. The Rangers were able to tack on five goals in a 5-2 victory over the Pride.

Inside the Box Score
  • The Rangers scored five goals for the first time since playing against the Pride in the 2022 regular season finale.
  • Emily Mikkelson and Alexis Baker each had a brace in the effort. This is Baker's second two goal game of the season and Mikkelson's first.
  • Freshman Jenna Scholz opened her goal scoring account, scoring in the 86th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers struck first just 30 seconds into the match. Emily Mikkelson broke away and fired a shot that ricocheted off the PNW goalkeeper and pinged off Mikkelson to put the Rangers ahead early 1-0.

Alexis Baker added on in the 23rd minute off a service from Alair Posard. Baker nodded the ball home to make the scoreline 2-0 in favor of the Rangers.

With just under 30 seconds remaining in the second half the Rangers tacked on another insurance goal. A back heel pass from Alexis Baker to Emily Mikkelson led to Mikkelson's second goal of the afternoon and pushed the score to a lopsided 3-0 before the end of the first half.

15 minutes into the second half the Rangers continued to find the back of the net. A set piece taken by Alexis Bolger was played short to Adrianna Rodriguez who found herself wide with space to send in the cross. None other than Alexis Baker met the ball with her head and put the ball into the back of the net to add to the Parkside lead 4-0. Baker finished the day with five points off of two goals and one assist.

Just 20 minutes later in the 80th minute of action the Pride finally broke through and made the scoreline 4-1. 5 minutes later Jenna Scholz notched her first career goal, cleaning up a misplayed ball by the PNW defense. The score was now 5-1 in favor of the Rangers.

The Pride would find the back of the net once more in the 87th minute but the damage was already done, and the Rangers leave Hammond victorious in a 5-2 scoreline.

The Rangers now await to see how the rest of the GLIAC shakes out to determine the seeding for the GLIAC Tournament. The Rangers will play on Monday on the road. The opponent will be announced following the conclusion of all the GLIAC matches today. You can stay up to date on all things Parkside at the offical website of the Rangers at parksiderangers.com.
