SCOUTING GRAND VALLEY
The Rangers and Lakers will match up for the second time this season, this time in Allendale. The two sides last met over a month ago on Oct. 24 when the Lakers left Kenosha victorious in a close 1-0 scoreline. It was a match that the Rangers were overpowered in despite the close score. GVSU fired off 32 shots in the effort placing 14 shots on frame. Parkside let off just five shots on the day with the lone shot on goal coming from the foot of Alair Posard.
In the time since playing the Rangers, the Lakers have gone 3-1-3. Their lone loss came at the hands of Northern Michigan in a ranked battle with the Wildcats. Lakers goalkeeper, Kendall Robertson, also reeled in GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in week five. The Junior has split time with goalkeeper Isabel Imes. Between the two of them and the Lakers defense they have allowed just 11 goals on the season. Robertson currently sits tied in first in the GLIAC in the goals allowed category (4) with her teammate close behind tied for third (7).
The Lakers will enter the match ranked 20th in the newest rankings poll. The Lakers are currently sitting tied in second place with Michigan Tech in the conference. Both sides are just two points behind #12 Northern Michigan.
SCOUTING DAVENPORT
The Panthers will play host to the Rangers on Sunday. The last time the two sides met was back on Sept. 22 when the Rangers prevailed 2-1 in Kenosha. Goals by Alexis Bolger and Emily Mikkelson proved to be the difference in the GLIAC battle between the two squads.
The Panthers have gone 1-4-3 since playing the Rangers at Wood Road Soccer Field. Their lone win came impressively over Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Mich. in a 4-0 scoreline. With that performance Davenport swept the Player of the Week awards for th GLIAC. The Offensive Player of the Week was awarded to Olivia Bosworth. The freshman scored her first two collegiate goals against Saginaw and collected four points on the weekend. The Defensive Player of the Week honors were given to Bailey Gauthier. The Sophomore goalkeeper got her first start of the season against Ferris State allowing just one goal. She followed up that performance with a shutout win against Saginaw Valley State for the first of her career. The Panthers are now 1-0-1 with Gauthier between the posts.
Davenport is currently two points ahead of the Rangers in seventh place in the GLIAC. Just one point behind Ferris State, Davenport will look for two positive results in the upcoming weekend to move up the table.
