Illinois Springfield 2, Parkside 1
The Parkside men's soccer team opened their 2022 road schedule with a match against the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars. The Prairie Stars got out to an early lead, but the Rangers found a way to answer late and even the game. The Prairie Stars did not back down, however, retaking the lead just minutes later and coming away with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Prairie Stars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Niccolo Ciceri. The score held that way throughout most of a very physical match. The Rangers were able to get on the board in the 81
st minute with a goal from
Marcos Calderon Jimenez, his second of the season. The 1-1 tie did not last long however, as the Prairie Stars found the back of the net with an 83
rd minute goal from Federico D'Andrea. The Rangers would battle until the end, but the Springfield defense would hold out to claim the victory.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
The Rangers were held to just two shots on goal in the game, after firing 10 total shots.
Robin Hermann made his third start as the goalkeeper for the Rangers, earning a season high eight saves while allowing two goals.
