Parkside 3, Lewis 2
The Parkside women's soccer team played their first game at Wood Road Field in 2022 on Saturday as they hosted the Lewis Flyers. The Rangers found themselves ahead early, but the Flyers found a way to take the lead early in the second half. The Green & White showed persistence, however, notching a pair of goals later in the second half to earn their first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got on the board first, with
Alexis Baker scoring her first goal of the season on a beautiful shot in the seventh minute, with the assist going to
Myah Strokosch. The lead would not last long, as Elisa Aguilar scored her a game-tying goal on a penalty kick in the 16
th minute to even the game at 1-1. The score would stay tied until the 47
th minute, when a controversial penalty called against Parkside goalkeeper
Mia Guyton allowed for Aguilar to score again on a penalty kick to put the Flyer's up 2-1. The call against their keeper lit a fire under the Ranger offense, and it appeared as if a whole new team had taken the field. The Rangers began to out-hustle and out-work the Flyers, which led to the Flyer lead dissipating quickly. In the 52
nd minute,
Emily Mikkelson fired a shot that bounded off the Lewis goalkeeper's hands and right to the feet of Baker, who tied things up with her second goal of the game. The match looked to be heading to a 2-2 draw late until the Rangers found themselves on the attack in the 82
nd minute. Baker fired a shot that found the crossbar, took one bounce, and found the head of
Makayla Wesemann before going into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
HEAR FROM COACH NIKOLIC
"I'm really proud of the character and heart the team showed today. Two penalties against can be demoralizing, but we didn't let that deter us and we saw some players show up when needed. We are still learning and growing as a team, but it sure feels good to get that win."
STATWORTHY
Baker now has three multi-goal games in her career as she brings her career goals scored total to 15. Wesemann scored her first collegiate goal, subsequently earning her first collegiate game-winning goal in the process. Guyton made her first appearance in goal this season, tallying five saves on seven attempts.
