SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Parkside softball team saw its 2022 campaign come to a close on Saturday at the GLIAC Tournament, as the top-seeded and No. 21 nationally-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers handed the Rangers an 8-0 loss in the first round.
GAME RECAP
GVSU limited the Rangers to just one hit, and jumped on the scoreboard early, using a 2-run first inning to take the lead. Parkside's lone hit came in the first inning following a hit by pitch, so the Rangers had two runners on to put the pressure on the Lakers early, but the pitching staff tightened up.
The Rangers had runners on in every inning, thanks to walks and hit by pitches, but couldn't come away with timely hitting as the Lakers pulled away with a 5-run fourth inning.
Freshman
Rylee Baetz had the teams only hit in the first inning and she also drew a walk. Redshirt-senior
Tijanne Ross suffered the loss, going 3.0 innings while senior
Kiley Akey pitched the final inning.
Parkside will finish the 2022 season at 8-41 and earned the No. 8 seed in the tournament. All-GLIAC awards will be announced shortly by the conference office.
