Rangers Win Game One Against Grand Valley On The Road

PARKSIDE 3, GRAND VALLEY 2

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Parkside Baseball team upsets Grand Valley State in the first of a four game series set to take place this weekend in Allendale, Mich. The Rangers were led by the arm of senior Nicholas Schouten and the hot bat of junior Max Bruff.
 
RECAP
The Grand Valley State Lakers got off to a good start with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning, Bruff hit a single which scored senior Hunter Weddel to tie the game. In the home half of the fourth, the Lakers were able to take a one run lead once again due to an error by the Rangers. The hot bat of Bruff came through once again for the Rangers when he hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the eighth to tie the game once again; 2-2. The game later went to extra innings and was knotted at two runs a piece until the top of the 12th inning when senior Bryce Inman singled to the shortstop which scored sophomore Caleb Badgley to lift the Ranger over the Lakers, 3-2.

Schouten went the distance for the second time this year. This time he time went the full 12 innings to earn his first win of the season. Schouten threw 132 pitches where he walked one, struck out seven, and only allowed one earned run.

Bruff and Inman accounted for four of the Rangers eight total hits. The rest coming from Hunter Weddel, Dominic Esposito, Caleb Badgley, and Andrew Harris.

The Rangers will battle the Lakers in a double header on Saturday in Allendale, Mich. before they close out their season against the Lakers on Sunday.
