GAME 1: Parkside 1, Wayne State 0
GAME 2, Wayne State 3, Parkside 1
In Parkside softball's GLIAC Opener, and technically the home opener as well, the Rangers earned a split against Wayne State at the Rosemont Dome after the game was moved due to field conditions. Senior
Kiley Akey pitched a complete-game shutout in game one, her second of the season.
Â
The Rangers will now face Saginaw Valley State on Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. / 1 p.m. at the Parkway Sports Complex in Rosemont, right next to the Rosemont Dome.
Â
Game 1 Recap
Behind Akey's great pitching performance, the game was scoreless through the first five innings as the Rangers were held without a hit until the sixth inning. In the sixth, freshman
CaroleAnn Goglin led off with a single to left field and junior
Tai Gonzales came in to pinch run. After a freshman
Tia Livernash walk with two outs, junior
Jadynn Powell came through with an RBI single to right field for the game's only run as Akey was able to hold off the Warriors all game long.
Â
Akey's final line read 7.0 innings, seven hits, two walks and one strikeout as she improved to 4-7 this season with the win. Powell and Goglin finished with Parkside's only hits in the victory.

Game 2 Recap
After a scoreless first inning, Wayne State was able to push across three in the top of the second inning off three hits and help from one Parkside error. The Rangers got a hit in each the third and fourth innings, but couldn't come up with the clutch hit to bring a run in.
Â
It went into the seventh with the Warriors still leading 3-0, but Livernash led off the inning with a single to left field. After back-to-back outs, junior
Dani Evans came through with a double down the left field line to score Livernash and get the Rangers on the board. Unfortunately that was all Parkside could score and the Warriors came away with the win in game two.
