Game Recap: Softball |

Pair of Late Comeback Chances Fall Short on Senior Day for Softball

GAME 1: Northwood 8, Parkside 4
GAME 2: Northwood 5, Parkside 3
A couple of late comeback attempts by the Parkside softball team both fell short on Saturday night, as the team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Northwood at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill.

In between games, the Rangers honored seniors Alyssa Laxson and Tijanne Ross for Senior Day.

Game 1 Recap
Parkside rallied to scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Northwood had already built a sizable lead. The Timberwolves took the early lead in the top of the first with a run and make it 4-0 with three more runs in the top of the fourth.

Parkside answered, scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a freshman CaroleAnn Goglin sacrifice fly that scored freshman Tia Livernash. The Timberwolves pushed it to 8-1 before Parkside had their biggest inning of the day. Junior Jadynn Powell led off with a single up the middle and redshirt-senior Alyssa Laxson drew a walk. Freshman Rylee Baetz drove in Powell with a double to left center to make it 8-2. Two more runs came in on a junior Dani Evans 2-run double to left center, but that was all Parkside could get.

Powell finished 2-for-4 with a run while Evans 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Baetz also went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI and a double. Senior Kiley Akey suffered the loss in game one, going the first 4.1 innings while freshman Olivia Masnica pitched the final 2.2 innings.

Game 2 Recap
An Akey 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning was the Rangers' only offense until the bottom of the seventh inning. With the Timberwolves leading 5-2, Baetz led off with a single and moved up on Goglin's single. After Akey was hit by a pitch, junior Taylor Delgado also was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and make it 5-3. The game ended with the bases loaded full of Rangers however.

Earlier in the game, it took until the top of the fourth inning for either team to score, and that was Northwood with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. The Timberwolves made it 4-0 with a big 3-run top of the fifth inning. The runs came in on an RBI groundout, a double and a single.
