The Parkside Softball team finished their first doubleheader ahead of five games to be played in the Rosemont Dome in Rosemont, Illinois, dropping both games on Thursday. The Rangers look ahead to three games this weekend in Rosemont, with the next coming against Upper Iowa on Friday, Feb. 25
th at 9 a.m.
GAME 1 RECAP
Truman State's bats were hot early in the game thanks to an RBI triple from the second batter of the game, making it 1-0 TSU. Truman State added three runs in the third and four more in the fourth inning to extend their lead to nine.
Parkside was held hitless until the top of the fifth inning when redshirt-senior
Alyssa Laxson smacked a two-out single up the middle to end the Truman State no-hitter. Next, freshman
Tia Livernash followed Laxson with a single to third base. Junior
Cassie Rutledge kept the Rangers bats hot with another single up the middle to load the bases with two outs, but the Rangers couldn't push a run across.Â
Laxson went 1-for-1 with two walks, while redshirt-senior
Tijanne Ross pitched 3.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits although only one run was earned. Ross also walked one batter while striking out five.Â
GAME 2 RECAP
Ursuline got off to an early lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and added two more runs in the bottom of the third; taking an early 5-0 lead.
Parkside got their scoring started in the top of the sixth inning, when Rutledge hit a one-out single to left field. Freshman
Meagan Maza walked which led to a single to the shortstop by junior
Dani Evans scoring one due to a throwing error by the shortstop. The scoring ended shortly after as the Rangers left three stranded in the top of the sixth.
The Rangers ended game two with one run on eight hits after leaving 10 runners stranded on base. Rutledge went 2-for-4 and scored the lone Parkside run of the game. Freshman Shelly Diesz opened the first inning of the game and gave up three runs on three hits while walking one batter. Senior
Kiley Akey pitched the last 5.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits and walking two batters.
SEASON LEADERS
Through the first eight games of the season,
Cassie Rutledge leads the team in batting average (.412). Meanwhile, Junior
Taylor Delgado leads the team in hits (9), and on-base plus slugging (.952).
On the mound,
Tijanne Ross has pitched a team-high 25 innings and started five of the team's first eight games.
