Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against NMU

Northern Michigan 62, Parkside 56
MARQUETTE, Mich.- The Parkside women's basketball team traveled to the upper peninsula to for a makeup game against the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Rangers had a very short turnaround for this game, following their 87-66 win against Lake Superior State yesterday. The two teams were locked in defensively, and points came at a premium throughout the game. It wasn't until late in the fourth quarter that the Wildcats were able to pull away for the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats used some momentum late in the first quarter to jump out to a 15-11 lead. The Rangers worked their way back in the second quarter to tie the game at 27 before going into the halftime break. Courtney Shoenbeck led the Rangers through the second quarter, hitting three three-point jumpers to score 9 points. The offense slowed on both sides in the third quarter. Alyssa Nelson hit two threes in the quarter to help give the Rangers a small 38-36 lead going into the fourth. The Wildcats got hot in the fourth quarter, and jumped out to a five-point lead thanks to two threes made by Elizabeth Lutz. The Rangers battled hard, but could not make up the ground in time.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Tough road loss today at NMU. We battled hard but just couldn't get one more stop and score to get it done. I was really encouraged by the performance from our bench- I thought they brought energy that we needed. Credit NMU, they hit some tough and timely shots. Obviously, we are disappointed with the setback, but we will need to take the next two days off and make sure our team is rested and ready to battle a really good Northwood on the road."

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Kayla Bohr led the way for the Rangers with 16 points, 3 assists and two rebounds. Schoenbeck finished with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Makaylee Kuhn led the way for the Wildcats with 28 points and 12 rebounds.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will finish off their regular season schedule next Saturday, Feb. 26 as they hit the road to face the Northwood Timberwolves at noon.
