Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nelson and Plockelman Shine as Rangers Win Fifth Straight Game

Parkside 74, Saginaw Valley State 67
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Parkside women's basketball team traveled to Michigan to face the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.  This matchup was the second of the year between the two teams, and the Rangers looked to earn the series sweep as they rode in on a modest four game winning streak.  The Rangers shooting continued to shine as they took the lead in the second quarter and never looked back.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals got out to an early lead, as they found themselves on top 20-14 at the end of the first quarter.  The Rangers woke up in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 21-11 to go into the half with a 35-31 lead.  The Rangers dropped 24 points in the third quarter, with Hannah Plockelman and Courtney Schoenbeck each scoring five points to help extend the Rangers lead to eight points heading into the final ten minutes.  The Cardinals tried to battle back in the fourth, but Alyssa Nelson put the team on her back, scoring nine points and leading the Rangers to their fifth consecutive win.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Big win on the road against SVSU! Really proud of our squad's resilience.  We've been battling some illness this week and it was great to see people step up and make plays throughout the game, including big hustle plays and knocking down shots at the end of the fourth quarter.  We look to continue our momentum as we head to Wayne state on Saturday."

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nelson continues to dominate every basketball court she walks on to, as she dropped 29 points in tonight's game.  She shot an impressive 53% from the field, 62.5% from three-point land, and 100% at the free throw line.  Plockelman had another stellar game as well, scoring 19 points while earning seven rebounds and three assists.  Freshman Sheridan Flauger made her first career start tonight for the Rangers, finishing with four points.  Maddie Barrie led the Cardinals with 16 points.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will finish off their road trip on Saturday, Feb. 12 with a matchup against the Wayne State Warriors at noon.  The Rangers will return to De Simone Arena on Thursday, Feb. 17 as they take on the Ferris State Bulldogs.  For more information and the Rangers full schedule, visit parksiderangers.com.
