Nelson Scores Career High as Rangers Fall to Hawks in The Nexus Classic

Rockhurst 79, Parkside 74
KENOSHA, Wis. - The Parkside women's basketball team hosted the Rockhurst Hawks to close out the women's basketball portion of the Nexus Classic. The Rangers battled and kept things close for most of the game, but strong free throw shooting lifted the Hawks over the Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers held a slim leading heading into the end of the quarter, before a three-pointer at the buzzer from Rockhurst's Keegan Sullivan tied the game at 19-19. Alyssa Nelson got off to a hot start with seven points in the opening quarter.

Nelson tallied another seven points in the second quarter, but a cold stretch for the Rangers from both the field (3-12) the free throw line (6-11) allowed the Hawks to jump out to a 38-32 lead.

The Rangers got out fast in the third quarter, with Nelson and Paty Gallasova pairing up to lead a 10-1 run to start the second half. The Rangers would outscore the Hawks 22-19 so pull within three points heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter, using a 10-2 run in the opening two minutes to build their lead. The Rangers did not back down, with Nelson continuing to lead the charge and scoring 14 points in the quarter. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the race against the clock did not come out in their favor as Parkside would fall in their Nexus Classic finale.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nelson set a new career high of 38 points in the game, coming just one point shy of the school record of 39 points (Debby Hanson, 1984-85).

Gallasova ended with 11 points, shooting 4-7 from the field. Grace Lomen led the Rangers with seven rebounds, while Courtney Schoenbeck ended the day with a team-high four assists. Sullivan led the Hawks with 27 points and nine rebounds.
