Parkside Announces the Hiring of Five New Graduate Assistants

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Parkside Athletic department has announced the hiring of five new graduate assistants.  Zach Adkins, Justin Corrigan, Becca Garner, Janel Katzer, and Emma Vermette will assist the athletic department with various responsibilities throughout the year.
 
Zach Adkins
Zach Adkins joined the Parkside staff as the Graduate Assistant for Facilities.  The Fennimore, Wis., native played Basketball at Madison College from 2015-2017, and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in General Management at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Before joining the Parkside staff, Adkins spent two years as an Event and Facility Supervisor for the Madison College Athletic Department, as well as two years as an Event Supervisor for the Wisconsin Academy Basketball.  Adkins also spent a year as a Program Associate and Software Implementation Specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
 
Justin Corrigan
Justin Corrigan joined the Parkside Athletics staff as the Graduate Assistant for Strategic Communications.  The Lombard, Ill., native ran Cross Country and Track at Carthage College from 2017-2021.  After four years at Carthage, Corrigan graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science.  During his time with the Cross Country and Track & Field program, Corrigan earned College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Academic All-Conference Honors in 2018 and 2019.

Before joining the Parkside staff, Corrigan spent three years as a Social Media Coordinator for the Carthage Men's Cross Country and Track & Field program.
 
Becca Garner
Becca Garner joined the Parkside Athletics staff as the Video Production Graduate Assistant on Aug. 1, 2021.  The Centennial, Colo., native graduated in the spring of 2020 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Media with an emphasis in sports from Hastings College (Neb.). 

During her time at Hastings, she spent three years as the Live Sports Director of HC Media. Helped produce over 15 ESPN3 productions. Garner also helped Direct four NAIA Women's Basketball National Championships and three NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships. Garner was also a Who's-Who recipient and on the Dean's List.

Janel Katzer
Janel Katzer joined the Parkside Athletics staff as the Athletics Administration Graduate Assistant.  The Trevor, Wis., native began her college career at Parkside in the fall of 2017. After four years, Katzer graduated magna cum laude in the spring of 2021 earning her Bachelor's of Science degree in Exercise Science.  During her time at Parkside, she was involved in research studies that emphasized student-athlete success. One of her studies was presented at the 2021 UW-Parkside Student Showcase and the 2021 UW System Symposium. Another one of her studies is in the process of being published. Katzer also was a recipient of the 2020 Academic Achievement Award. 

Before starting her role as the Athletics Administration GA, Katzer worked with the Parkside men's basketball team as a student manager for the 2020-21 season.
 
Emma Vermette
Emma Vermette joined the Parkside Staff as the Events and Operations Graduate Assistant.  The Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., native played Soccer at Delta College from 2015-2016.  She then transferred to Northern Michigan University, where she played Soccer from 2017-2018.  Following her soccer career, Vermette served as an Assistant Coach for the Women's Soccer team at Northern Michigan from 2019-2020.  She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Management of Health and Fitness in December of 2019 and spent her free time playing club Hockey.

Before joining the Parkside staff, Vermette spent time in Montana living at a ski resort and went skiing every day.
 
"Our graduate assistant program continues to be instrumental to the progress and growth of Parkside Athletics," said Andrew Gavin, Director of Athletics. "Every year, it is exciting to cheer on our graduate assistants as they move on to new opportunities and welcome new talent and energy to our staff. We've already witnessed in a short time how Becca, Justin, Janel, Zach, and Emma are awesome additions to Parkside Athletics."
