GAME 1 RECAP
Saginaw Valley State kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning on a bases loaded walk issued by Parkside starter Austin Emanuel. The Rangers responded in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from sophomore Reece Homan, that scored senior Dominic Esposito. The Cardinals scored a pair of runs, and grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fourth in part due to a Ranger throwing error.

It wouldn't be long before the game was once again tied. In the bottom of the fifth a two-out rally, which included a single from senior Bryce Brogni, and a home run from redshirt-senior Casey Oliver tied the game at three. However, the visitors once again grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth, this time with a little bit of small-ball. Logan Welch led off the inning with a single, and Saginaw Valley State got the run in thanks to a bunt that advanced the runner, a single to center, and a sac fly. An insurance run for the Cardinals came in the seventh on a solo home run from starting pitcher Hayden Jatczak.

Emanuel put in a solid performance for Parkside on the mound, pitching seven innings, striking out five, and allowing only two earned runs.

GAME 2 RECAP
Saginaw Valley State started the game with a two-run top of the first, and carried that offensive hot streak for the rest of the game. After their two in the first, the Cardinals scored in six of the game's remaining innings, ending with 20 runs after nine. The Rangers scored two runs in the second, one on an RBI triple from redshirt-senior Nicholas Eisenmenger, then an RBI single from Oliver that scored Eisenmenger. Parkside scored their third run in the bottom of the seventh when redshirt-junior Kurt Mlachnik walked, then scored on a passed ball and throwing error by the catcher who tried to catch him going to third. The Rangers final run came in the eighth. Senior Dominic Esposito started the inning with a leadoff double, and was drove home by senior Hunter Weddel.

Junior Nicholas Schouten got the start for Parkside in game two and went three innings, yielding seven earned runs. Four other Rangers pitched, with junior Dusty Tomas going three innings in relief.

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Through the two games, the two Rangers that stood out on the offensive side of the ball were Esposito and Oliver. Esposito finished the day 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Oliver, on the other hand, went 3-for-7 with a home run, three RBIs, and a run scored. Eisenmenger and Emanuel were the other two Parkside players with extra-base hits on the day, hitting a triple and double respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside is scheduled to play two more against Saginaw Valley State this weekend, but the days and times are in the air due to inclement weather. Next weekend, the Rangers will travel to Detroit, Mich. for a four-game series against Wayne State. Game one is scheduled for Friday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m.
