After Purdue Northwest took the opening game, which was a makeup from March 30 that got postponed due to darkness in the eighth inning, the Parkside softball team battled back to win both games of the original doubleheader.

The Rangers improved to 15-22 overall and 11-14 in the conference in the final home games at Case Softball Complex of the 2021 season.

GAME 1 RECAP
After the Pride took the lead in the top of the second inning with a solo home run, Parkside exploded in the bottom of the third inning for six runs and got some major help by a few PNW blunders. In the inning, the first two batters reached on errors, followed by a sac bunt and then an RBI single from sophomore
Cassie Rutledge to tie the game at 1-1. Redshirt-senior
Megan Aliverti, who's been hot as of late, smacked a 3-run home run to make it 4-1 Rangers.

Later in the inning, senior
Jessica Miklos brought in
Alex Wooten with an RBI double to make it 5-1 and sophomore
Jadynn Powell finished off the big inning with an RBI single to score Miklos and make it 6-1.

The Rangers final run of the game came on another PNW error, which made it 7-2 in the fourth.

Redshirt-senior
Allison Hausl continued her hot streak, going 7.0 innings allowing three runs, two earned, with seven strikeouts. She improved to 8-5 this season. Aliverti finished 1-for-3 with her 3-run home run while Rutledge went 2-for-3 with a double. Miklos went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI.

GAME 2 RECAP
The Rangers jumped out to an early lead in game two, but PNW came back to make it a ball game in the end. In the first inning, Aliverti made it 1-0 Parkside with an RBI double and in the second inning, senior
Alyssa Laxson hit a 2-run home run that nearly hit the Sports & Activity Center. Rutledge made it a 4-0 Rangers lead with an RBI single.

PNW made it 4-1 in the fifth, then scored a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 4-3. Rutledge hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the fifth and came in to score to make it 5-3 Parkside, and Hausl came in to earn her first save of the season, pitching the final 2.1 innings.

Rutledge finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a triple while sophomore
Taylor Delgado went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot. Laxson went 1-for-3 with her 2-run home run.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season, with three straight doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, beginning with Friday at Ferris State.
