Softball Bounces Back to Split at Maryville

Game 1: Maryville 2, Parkside 0
Game 2: Parkside 4, Maryville 1
The Parkside softball team bounced back from getting no-hit in game one to take game two behind a strong outing from senior Cassidy Prucha. The Rangers will battle the Saints once more on Sunday at 11 a.m. as they look to take the series finale.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Saints took game one in a pitching dual, as Maryville's Alyssa Callans tossed the no-hitter against the Rangers with 10 strikeouts. Callans walked three batters, but the Parkside offense couldn't get going against the graduate student for the Saints. Maryville scored a run in each the first and second inning.

Senior Allison Hausl had a nice game for the Rangers, as she went 6.0 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts.

GAME 2 RECAP
The Rangers bounced back nicely in game two, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to a Jessica Miklos RBI single and an Alex Wooten sacrifice fly. Dani Evans and Taylor Delgado scored in the inning. Maryville made it a 2-1 ball game with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Parkside tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh. Miklos hit a one-out single to get things going, followed by an Alex Wooten RBI groundout that scored Samantha Newtoff, who was running for Miklos. Hausl scored senior Megan Aliverti with an RBI double to left field to make it 4-1 Rangers.

Senior Cassidy Prucha pitched a great game for the Rangers, going for 6.0 innings allowing just one run on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Junior Kiley Akey earned her first save of the season, pitching the rest of the seventh inning after a leadoff double by the Saints.

Miklos finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Wooten went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Evans and Delgado each went 1-for-4 with a run while Hausl and Cassie Rutledge each had a double.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will finish out the weekend with one more game against the Saints on Sunday at 11 a.m. GLIAC play opens up on March 20 as Parkside will travel to face Ashland after a weekend off.
