Offense Explodes as Women's Basketball Sweeps Ashland

Parkside 94, Ashland 81
Parkside women's basketball saw it's offense explode on Sunday afternoon at De Simone Gymnasium, where the Rangers finished off a sweep of Ashland. Coming into this weekend, Ashland has not allowed more than 75 points in the last 31 games and Parkside scored 80 and 94 in back-to-back games against the Eagles.

It's the second straight game that all five starters finished in double-figures for the Rangers, as senior Alexis Vaughn finished with a career-high 26 points and junior Alyssa Nelson scored 22 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage and never trailed in this game. At the end of the first, Parkside carried a 24-15 advantage. While Ashland opened the second quarter on a small run, Parkside answered right away, pushing it back to double-digits and taking a 45-33 lead into the locker room at the half.

The third quarter was no different for both teams, as Parkside answered everything Ashland would throw at them. The Rangers' offense kept going strong in the second half, as Ashland dropped the deficit down to seven points at 78-71 with 6:02 to play in the fourth, but Parkside followed that with a 14-2 run to pull away.

STATWORTHY
Vaughn went 11-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, hitting big shots consistently throughout the game. Junior Hannah Plockelman had 15 points and nine rebounds while senior Claire Jakaitis had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

As a team, Parkside shot extremely well, going for a season-high 35-of-57 (61.4%) from the floor and 8-of-18 from downtown. They also went a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. The Rangers went +15 in rebounding and -4 in the turnover battle.
