Parkside 99, Davenport 59
Thanks to a hot shooting night, the Parkside women's basketball team dominated Davenport Thursday night at De Simone Gymnasium in the team's GLIAC home opener. The Rangers, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC, scored their most points in a game since Dec. 7, 2019 when the team dropped 101 on Davenport.
Â
Senior
Alyssa Nelson, the reigning Kenosha.com Ranger of the Week, stayed hot, finishing with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went even for much of the first quarter, but a quick 6-0 run to end the first by the Rangers gave them a 20-15 advantage. Nelson had 12 of Parkside's 20 in the first quarter. It was all Parkside from there, as the home squad hit fire in the second quarter and outscored the Panthers 30-11 while shooting 6-of-8 in the second quarter. Sophomore
Lamija Coric went 3-for-3 in the quarter from deep, including a triple in the corner as time expired to make it 50-26 Parkside at the break.
Â
Parkside outscored Davenport 30-11 in the third quarter as well, putting the game well out of reach early into the second half. The Rangers did it down low in the third quarter, shooting 12-of-16 from the floor and moving the ball extremely well.
Â
WHO LED THE WAY
After Nelson's solid game, senior
Alexis Vaughn was on triple-double watch going for 11 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Coric finished with 16 points off the bench and went 5-for-5 from the floor. Senior
Claire Jakaitis was also in double-figures off the bench, going for 14 points.
Â
As a team, Parkside shot 60% (36-of-60) and 58.8% from deep (10-of-17) while Davenport to 31.3%. The Rangers went +22 in rebounding and had 29 assists on their 36 made field goals.
