Women's Basketball Erases 16-point Fourth Quarter Deficit, but Can't Complete the Comeback

Lindenwood 67, Parkside 65
The Parkside women's basketball team erased a 16-point fourth quarter deficit to tie it up Sunday afternoon against Lindenwood, but a couple of crucial turnovers and a late foul helped the visiting Lions come away with the tight victory. The Rangers' Alyssa Nelson and Hannah Plockelman combined to score 53 points, with Nelson going for 32 on her own.

DOWN THE STRETCH
Parkside trailed 16 with 9:31 to play in the game, but they kept fighting and used a 20-4 run to comeback and tie the game at 65-65 with :44-seconds left after Nelson converted an and-1. After an offensive foul on the Lions, who were without their top-2 players after fouling out late in the fourth quarter, Parkside had a crucial turnover that led to a Parkside foul and a pair of free throws for the Lions to make it 67-65 Lindenwood. The Rangers missed the game-tying jumper with :02-seconds left on the clock.
 
The Green & White outscored the Lions 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
 
NELSON/PLOCKELMAN IMPRESS
Nelson went for a season-high 32 points on 9-of-13 shooting and a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. In her last four games, she's now averaging 27.5 points per game and is shooting 37-of-55 (67%) from the floor and has gone 15-of-26 from deep. Plockelman also had a nice game for Parkside, going for 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting with a team-high eight rebounds. Nelson/Plockelman also combined to go 6-for-9 from downtown.
 
Lindenwood was able to win the rebounding battle 39-24 and had 20 offensive rebounds. The had 17 second chance points while the Rangers had five.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will make an exciting trip West to the city of Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Holiday Hoops Classic. They'll face Tampa on Friday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. and MSU Billings on Saturday at noon. Parkside returns back to De Simone Gymnasium, which is being renamed to De Simone Arena on Tuesday of this week, with a Saturday, Jan. 1 matchup against Purdue Northwest.
