Women's Basketball Shines as the Rangers Earn First Win of the Season

Parkside 78, #23 Truman State 66
Pepper Pike, Ohio – The Parkside women's basketball team opened their 2021-2022 regular season with a game against the Truman State Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs were ranked #23 in the national preseason polls, but the Rangers proved that they should have been ranked as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got out to an early lead in the first quarter, getting out to a 23-6 lead.  Both teams struggled on the offensive end in the second quarter, as the Rangers outscored the Bulldogs 8-5 to close out the half.  The Bulldogs came out of the break on fire, as they outscored the Rangers in the third quarter 24-12 to take a 45-43 lead.  The Rangers did not give up, though, as they came back and rallied to beat the bulldogs by 12.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Big win against a tough Truman State.  I thought we set the tone defensively, as we held them to 5 points in the second quarter, caused 27 turnovers, and gave up no points in transition.  We made them work hard for every shot for three quarters, but we need to play that way for 40 minutes.  They are a really good team, we knew they were going to hit some tough shots and go on a run, but I was happy with how we responded with a run of our own.  We have a quick turnaround and play another important regional game tomorrow against Quincy."

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Senior Alyssa Nelson led the way for the Rangers with 21 points, with going 9-10 from the free throw line.  Senior Hannah Plockelman and sophomore Paty Gallasova also hit double digits in the point column, with Plockelman scoring 17, and Gallasova scoring 13.  Hannah Belanger led the way for the Bulldogs with 28 points.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. as they face off against the Quincy Hawks.  The Rangers home opener is set for Thursday, Nov. 18 against Minnesota – Duluth.
