Wrestling Falls 18-17 in Midweek Action at UW-Whitewater

The Parkside wrestling team hit the road Wednesday night for the first dual of the 2021-22 season, but the Rangers suffered a tight loss against the Warhawks that came right down to the finish.

No. 3 redshirt-senior Joseph Arroyo got the Rangers out to a 4-0 lead with a 17-5 major decision at 125, but the Warhawks earned a decision at 133 to make it 4-3. Freshman Cayden Henschel earned a major decision at 141, but UWW answered back again with a decision at 149 to make it 8-6.
 
Parkside then ripped off three straight victories, as freshman Ben Durocher won a 6-2 decision at 157, No. 5 redshirt-junior Shane Gantz won an 8-3 decision at 165 and redshirt-senior Job Ayala won a 4-2 decision at 174 to put the Rangers up 17-6.
 
UWW stormed back, winning the final three matches, including a pin at 197 that proved to be crucial in the end.

What's Next
Parkside will take the weekend off before competing in the Findlay Open on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Findlay, Ohio. The Rangers will host the Jim Koch Open on Saturday, Dec. 4 in De Simone Gymnasium and welcome in No. 1 St. Cloud State on Friday, Dec. 10.
