Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Shooting Woes Lead To Rangers Loss Against #5 Grand Valley State

 #5 Grand Valley State 77, Parkside 54
Cold shooting hampered the Parkside women's basketball team's effort to take a second game off the #5 Lakers after grabbing Friday afternoon's contest. The Rangers shot just 16-of-52 (30.8-percent) from the field, 5-of-28 (17.9-percent) from three, and 17-of-23 (73.9-percent) from the free throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside was able to jump out to an 8-4 lead to start the game, but unfortunately the Lakers responded, grabbed the lead, and never surrendered it. The Rangers cold shooting especially hurt in the first half, as they converted on only seven field goals, including 2-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc.

If there was a time for the Rangers to get back in the game, it was the start of the second half. After a pair of buckets from junior Courtney Schoenbeck closed out the first half, Parkside started the second with another four-point burst to bring the game to 35-22 with 8:27 remaining in the third quarter. The same trend didn't continue in the remaining 18+ minutes, as the Lakers outscored the Rangers 42-32 to finish with a 77-54 victory.

The visitors were led by Emily Spitzley, who backed up her 22-point performance on Friday with a 20-point, three rebound performance on Saturday.

The Lakers controlled the boards 43-31, and outscored the Rangers 44-22 in the paint. Grand Valley State also got 38 bench points compared to just 22 for Parkside.
