Wrestling Falls in First NSIC Road Dual at Northern State

1/14/2021 9:03:00 PM

Northern State 20, #22 Parkside 12
Parkside wrestling made its first road trip of the season all the way to Aberdeen, S.D., but the host Wolves took the match to drop the No. 22 ranked Rangers to 0-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside made a late run, but ultimately the Wolves winning four straight matches in the early going was the difference. No. 4 Joe Arroyo improved to 2-0 this season with a 5-1 decision to open the night, but NSU won the next four matches, two of which finished as major decisions to make it a 14-3 match. No. 11 Shane Gantz improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought 6-3 decision at 165 pounds over No. 10 James Burks, who was ranked in the 157-pound weight class.

After a sudden victory for the wolves at 174, freshman Reece Worachek and redshirt-junior Job Ayala earned two straight decisions to make it 17-12 NSU. Worachek and Ayala each improved to 2-0 this season. Northern State finished it off with a decision at heavyweight.
