The Parkside women's basketball team hung tough against No. 3 ranked Grand Valley State early on, but the Lakers ultimately improved to 20-1 with the lopsided victory over the Rangers Saturday afternoon to conclude Pink Weekend. The Rangers will now hit the road for two straight weekends.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Less than 5:00 in the Rangers trailed just 12-11 after an Aina Cabrero Sinol layup, which was her third straight bucket. Following that, the Lakers outscored Parkside 38-16 the rest of the first half to take a commanding lead. In the middle of that was a 15-0 run by GVSU which extended from the end of the first quarter to midway through the second. In the second half, the Lakers slowly built on their lead, outscoring Parkside 11-9 in the third quarter and 21-13 in the fourth. GVSU shot 63.3-percent in the first half while holding the Rangers to 41.4-percent.

Taylor Stephen led the Rangers with 13 points and went a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. Cabrero Sinol finished with 10 points and led the Rangers with seven rebounds. Sophomore
Alyssa Nelson finished with nine points and senior
Carolina Rahkonen, who hit the 1,000-point mark on Thursday, added six.

The Rangers struggled from beyond the arc, going 4-of-24. GVSU won both the rebounding and turnover battles, 35-28 and 16-14, respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT
With Pink Weekend in the books, Parkside will be on the road for back-to-back weekends, opening with a trip to Upper Michigan. They'll face Northern Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. and Michigan Tech on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.
