Wrestling Beats Seton Hill, Drops Next Two to Ranked Opponents

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Parkside wrestling team went 1-2 at the 2020 NWCA National Duals on Friday, earning an opening win over Seton Hill but falling to back-to-back ranked opponents to finish out their time in Indianapolis. No. 6 ranked Airk Furseth went 3-0 on the day while Joe Arroyo and Hensley each went 2-1.
 
PARKSIDE 24, SETON HILL 17
In the opening match, the duo of Joe Arroyo at 125 and No. 6 Airk Furseth at 133 got the Rangers going, much like they have all year. Arroyo earned an 8-0 major decision and Furseth had a 20-5 technical fall. After a couple of Griffins wins at 141 at 149, Subhan Umar, Shane Gantz and Edgar Heredia put the Rangers up 24-7 with three straight wins. Seton Hill claimed wins at 184, 197 and heavyweight. 
 
#5 MCKENDREE 34, PARKSIDE 6
McKendree proved its top-5 ranking in the Rangers' second dual of the day, taking all but two matches. Furseth earned a tough 9-5 decision over Christian Mejia at 133 to move to 2-0 on the day and Nathan Hensley avenged an earlier loss with an 8-6 decision at 149. The Bearcats, who had three wrestlers ranked No. 2 overall at their weights, finished the match with five straight victories.
 
#14 MERCYHURST 24, PARKSIDE 14
Parkside got off to a very nice start, earning four straight wins to open the dual with a 14-0 lead. Arroyo moved to 2-1 on the day with a major decision, Furseth battled No. 8 Eric Bartos and got a 7-6 decision to go 3-0 on the day, Pernevlon Sheppard picked up his first win of the day with a 6-2 decision and Hensley went to 2-1 with a 12-3 major decision. After the hot start, the Lakers finished off the dual with six straight wins, including a pin and a technical fall.

Parkside will host the Ranger Duals next weekend in Petretti Fieldhouse, battling No. 7 Tiffin, Findlay and No. 1 St. Cloud State on Saturday, Jan. 18.
