Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 15 Wayne State Takes Both from Baseball on Saturday

Parkside baseball had a tough task on Saturday as No. 15 Wayne State was in town, but the Warriors won both games over the Rangers taking game one 6-2 and game two 7-3.

GAME 1: Wayne State 6, Parkside 2
The game was tied 2-2 heading into the ninth inning, which was extra innings for game one. The Warriors broke through with a four-run ninth inning to pull away.

Wayne State struck first, with a two-run third inning, but the Rangers came back to tie it up after a Dominic Esposito RBI single in the fourth and a Ricky West RBI single to plate Casey Oliver and tie it up 2-2.

Parkside had two on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Warriors were able to pitch out of it.

GAME 2: Wayne State 7, Parkside 3
The Warriors got a monster game from first baseman Justin Kelly, who went 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles. The Warriors had a 3-0 lead until the bottom of the third where the Rangers answered with three runs of their own, using an Oliver RBI single, an Esposito sacrifice fly and a Nicholas Eisenmenger bases loaded walk to tie it up 3-3.

Wayne State got those three runs back in the top of the fourth however, then added a run in the top of the seventh.

Kurt Mlachnik went 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot, while West went 2-for-3 with a double. Hunter Weddel pitched the complete game, finishing with 13 hits, seven runs, one walk and one strikeout.
