Parkside baseball took the short trip south to battle former GLVC foe Lewis in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, but the home Flyers took both games from the Rangers, 24-2 in game one followed by an 8-6 win in game two. The Rangers will have an opportunity to get revenge against the Flyers next week at Simmons Field.
Â
GAME 1: Lewis 24, Parkside 2
After a scoreless top of the first, Lewis took a massive lead with a nine-run inning and didn't look back, using six run innings in the fourth and fifth to pull away with the huge win. Lewis had 17 hits while holding Parkside to four, but the Rangers combined to walk/hit 15 Flyers.
Â
GAME 2: Lewis 8, Parkside 6
After the Flyers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Parkside regained the lead with a run in the top of the second thanks to a
Michael Pillizzi RBI single and a three-run third inning where
Casey Oliver hit a sacrifice fly,
Ricky West hit an RBI single and
Paul Weise also hit an RBI single.
Â
The lead didn't last long, as the Flyers bounced right back to score three runs in the bottom of the third to tie it up, then went up 8-4 with a three-run sixth inning.
Â
Parkside battled back, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh off a two-run home run by
Shawn Rigsby, but the Flyers pitched their way out of the seventh to hold on to the win.
