Baseball Suffers Pair of Losses at GVSU

Parkside baseball opened a four-game series at Grand Valley State on Friday, but the Lakers took both games of the doubleheader 22-1 in game one and 7-3 in game two. The two teams will battle in another doubleheader at noon tomorrow.

GAME 1: Grand Valley State 22, Parkside 1
It was all Lakers in the opening game of the series, as GVSU used an improbable 14-run fourth inning to pull out to the huge lead. Parkside was charged with four errors in the game, resulting in 14 unearned runs. Shawn Rigsby drove in the Rangers' only run, coming on an RBI groundout in the top of the third inning.

GAME 2: Grand Valley State 7, Parkside 3
Parkside took the early advantage, but the Lakers went on to score seven of the game's final eight runs to pull away, including back-to-back three-run innings in the second and third.

In the top of the first inning, Shawn Rigsby led off with a walk and came in to score on Justin Bennett's RBI double to left center. After a groundout, Dominic Esposito drove in Bennett with an RBI single to make it 2-0 Rangers.

GVSU made it 3-1 in the bottom of the second, then 6-2 in the bottom of the third. Parkside scored its third and final run in the top of the third thanks to another Esposito RBI single.

Esposito went 2-for-4 witih two RBI while Bennett and Casey Oliver each added a double. Jarrett Rossiano pitched the first 7.0 innings and suffered the loss, finishing with seven runs (five earned) and five strikeouts. Aaron Cusimano came in to pitch the final inning scoreless.
