Rangers Come Up Short in Doubleheader at Ashland

It was a tough day for the Rangers as they fell to Ashland in both games of Saturday's doubleheader. The Eagles took the first game by a score of 10-2, and the second game 16-5.

GAME 1: Ashland 10, Parkside 2
It was all Ashland to start as the Eagles scored four runs in the first two innings. Ashland continued the scoring in the sixth, bringing in six more runs with a pair of homers. Parkside added two runs late, but fell short in the end.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ashland scored the first 10 runs in the game on 11 hits, while only giving up five hits to the Rangers. Parkside got on the board in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs. The first was on a bases loaded walk drawn by Nicholas Eisenmenger, while the second came on an RBI-single from Lane Ochs.
Peyton Schneider started the game for the Rangers, pitching 5 innings with two strikeouts, giving up two earned runs. Keaton Kastberg and Jake Macaluso pitched in relief for Parkside.

GAME 2: Ashland 16, Parkside 5
The Eagles again started hot, scoring five runs in the first inning. Ashland did not look back, scoring 16 runs in the game to the tune of 15 hits. Parkside hit well in the game, registering 11 hits of their own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Ashland's five-run first inning, the Rangers responded in the top of the second with an RBI-single from Justin Bennett, bringing in Noah Tyrrell. However, Ashland used an eight-run third inning to put the game out of reach.
Bennett, Tyrrell, and Shawn Rigsby each registered two hits for the Rangers, while Bennett also led the team with two RBI's. Jarrett Rossiano pitched four scoreless innings for Parkside, giving up only three hits and striking out five.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Between the two games, Parkside was led by Lane Ochs, who went 2-for-5 with two walks. Matt Tegtmeier went 2-for-4, also drawing a walk.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will finish their weekend with another doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 against Ashland starting at noon. The Rangers will again hit the road next weekend as they travel to Purdue Northwest, with the first game scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
