Alaska Fairbanks 73, Parkside 66
Parkside led for a majority of the game, but poor shooting caught up to them, as they squandered a late lead. On the day, the Rangers shot 31-percent from the field and 19.2-percent from three.
Â
FIRST HALF
The Rangers came out firing on all cylinders, as they hit their first five shots of the game to give them a 10-2 lead to start. For the remainder of the quarter, the two teams traded baskets and Parkside took a 18-12 lead into the quarter break. The Rangers were led in the first by senior
Taylor Stephen who had 6 points and two rebounds. Â Alaska Fairbanks responded to open the second quarter as they brought the Parkside lead to 20-18 with 7:41 left in the half. A three from sophomore
Alyssa Nelson with 6:20 left in the half kickstarted a 12-5 Parkside run to close the half and head to the locker room up 32-23.
Â
SECOND HALF
The Green & White again started the half strong and extended their lead to 11 after a layup from redshirt-sophomore
Claire Jakaitis with 8:30 left in the third quarter. The Nanooks responded to Parkside's largest lead with a 8-0 run in three minutes to bring the lead back down to three. The Rangers held that lead throughout the quarter and senior
Carolina Rahkonen extended it to five with a pair of free throws to close the third frame. With the score 50-45, Parkside was able to extend the lead once again to eight off a three-pointer from Rahkonen. The Nanooks came back with a 10-2 run and brought the game to 57-57 with 4:44 left in the game. Shortly after, Alaska Fairbanks would grab their first lead off of one of their five made threes in the fourth quarter. Rahkonen wouldn't let the Rangers go down without a fight, as she made a layup a minute later off a baseline drive to grab the 61-60 lead with 2:43 left in the game. Unfortunately for Parkside, that lead wouldn't last as they were outscored 7-0 in the final minute of the game.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"It's a disappointing way to end the trip," said head coach
Jen Conely. "The shooting didn't help, but it starts at the defensive end. We did a good job in the first half holding them to 23, but we just can't give up 50 second half points and expect to win. We definitely have some things to work on before our home opener next weekend."
Â
A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Parkside was led by Rahkonen, who registered a season-high 20 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Junior
Alisha Murphy also had a strong game with 16 points, going 3-of-5 from three. Rounding out the Ranger leaders was Stephen, who came close to a triple-double, with eight points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
Â
The Rangers had yet another cold shooting night in Alaska, going 22-for-71 from the field, and 5-of-26 from beyond the arc. Alaska Fairbanks on the other hand, shot 37.7-percent from the field and 42.1-percent from three. Other team statistics were close between the two teams as the Nanooks had a 50-47 rebounding advantage, and Parkside won the turnover battle 17-15.
