Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rangers Fall at Minnesota Duluth, 81-65

Minnesota Duluth 81, Parkside 65
The Rangers continued their extended road trip to start the season and came up a little short at Minnesota Duluth due to a tough third quarter. The loss ends a two-game winning streak for Parkside and brings them to 2-2 on the year.

FIRST HALF
Neither team could find separation to start, as they traded baskets throughout the first quarter. Four first quarter threes from Parkside helped them get on the board, but they still sat at the end of the first quarter tied at 16-16. The second quarter was much of the same, as neither team could build a lead over four points. The Rangers shot 6-for-14 in the quarter and were led in the half by sophomore Courtney Schoenbeck whose nine points helped them take a 33-32 lead into the half.

SECOND HALF
Separation finally came in the third quarter, unfortunately for Parkside they weren't the ones creating it. Redshirt-sophomore Claire Jakaitis opened the half for the Rangers with a bucket in the paint to extend their lead to three, their biggest of the day. Following, the Bulldogs went on the game's first real run, outscoring Parkside 24-6 over a span of nine minutes to close the quarter. Despite trailing by 15 to start the fourth quarter, Parkside cut the lead to nine on a layup from senior Carolina Rahkonen with 6:18 left in the game. Unfortunately, that's as close as they got, as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 16 before the final buzzer rang.

HEAR FROM COACH CONELY
"Tough loss on the road today to a good Duluth squad," said second year head coach Jen Conely. "I thought we did a great job of coming back to take the lead at halftime after a flat start. Second half, we made some defensive miscues that helped them go on a run. We made some plays to get back in it, but every time we went on a run they were able to get a big basket to cut the momentum. Overall, a solid weekend for our team. We definitely have some things to work on, but I'm proud of our buy in and know that this group is hungry to get better."

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Parkside was led by Schoenbeck, who scored a career-high 15 points in the contest. Sophomore Maddy Harrison and Rahkonen each chipped in with 12 points of their own as well, with Rahkonen also pulling in six rebounds.

As a team, Parkside was outrebounded 36-28, and also lost the turnover battle 16-12. The Rangers shot a decent clip at 42.9-percent from the field and 37-percent from three, but couldn't stop the Bulldogs from shooting 52.9-percent from the field and 35.3-percent from three.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers will be on a getaway, as the team will travel to Alaska for a pair of games in Anchorage. The first will come against Alaska-Anchorage on Friday, Nov. 22 at 10 p.m. The second game of the trip will come against Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday Nov. 23 at 4 p.m.
