Rangers Suffer Setback at Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State 4, Parkside 1
Parkside had a tough day at the office and suffered only their second loss in the GLIAC this season. The Rangers are now 9-5-1 overall, and 8-2-1 in conference play. Despite the loss, Parkside maintains their first-place spot in the GLIAC, leading Davenport by a point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saginaw Valley State, who came into the day fourth in the GLIAC standings, jumped out in front early. The game's first goal came in the 14th minute, and they added a second in the 37th. It looked Parkside was going to head into the half down 2-0, but they salvaged the half when redshirt-senior Leki Prpa found fellow redshirt-senior Jack Krenzien who scored to cut the Cardinal lead in half.

Coming out of the break with the score 2-1, Saginaw Valley State looked to extend their lead, and they did. They started the second half much like the first, and scored two unanswered goals, the first in the 56th minute, and the second in the 68th minute.

HEAR FROM COACH ZITZKE
"Tough result, this is the final game of a six-game road-trip, which is something that I don't think we've ever done before," said ninth-year head Jason Zitzke. "I was very proud of the guys going 4-1-1 over the course of six games away from home.

"As for today, it just wasn't our day, and they were the better team," Zitzke continued. "But, it's good to still be in first after six games on the road and it'll be a furious finish. All we can do is take it one game at a time and that's what we look forward to doing."

A LOOK AT THE BOX SCORE
Despite losing the game, the Rangers outshot the Cardinals on the day, taking 21 shots with five on goal, while Saginaw Valley State took 17 with 11 on goal. Leading Parkside in that category was the aforementioned Prpa and Krenzien. Prpa took five shots, while Krenzien took four with three on goal. Parkside also took 10 corners while the Cardinals only took three.

WHAT'S NEXT
Parkside will return home for the first time since Oct. 6 to take on the Ashland Eagles on Friday, Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. The Rangers will stay home for the weekend and will square off against the second-place Davenport Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m.

A BUSY WEEKEND
Friday, Nov. 1 will mark the start of a busy weekend for Parkside Soccer, as it marks their VIPS day. The VIPS Program presented by Gateway Mortgage allows Parkside student-athletes to recognize and celebrate a professor or staff member of their choice for the impact they've had on their experience as a student-athlete at UW-Parkside. Then, on Sunday, Nov. 3, both soccer teams will be recognizing their seniors on senior day. Parkside Soccer is inviting their alumni to come celebrate with a pre-game alumni tailgate starting at 10 a.m. The tailgate will feature drinks and snacks provided by Parkside Athletics and the UW-Parkside A'viands catering team. All alumni and their guest(s) that register before next Friday, Nov. 1 at noon will receive free entry to the women's and men's soccer games.
