FIRST HALF
Redshirt-senior
Blair Arthur scored an early layup, putting the Rangers on the board first and after a slow start by both teams, the next basket wasn't made until 6:16 tying the game at 2-2. The Timberwolves went on a 6-0 run, which ended by a jumper from redshirt-junior
Taylor Stephen at 2:05. As the first quarter expired, Parkside trailed Northwood 13-9. Arthur made two free throws to start the second quarter, but shortly after, the Timberwolves went on a 9-0 run which ended at 5:56 off a
Carolina Rahkonen basket, bringing the score to 22-13. The end of the quarter was back-and-forth but it ended with the Rangers falling behind the Timberwolves by 10 points with a score of 32-22 at the half.
SECOND HALF
The teams went even to start the third quarter, but after a layup by Rahkonen, Northwood went on a 7-0 run which Redshirt-senior
Shelby Cheston ended at 4:08 with a layup, making the score 45-34. As the third quarter ended, the Rangers were able to shrink the Timberwolves lead to eight points at 49-41. After the Timberwolves pushed their lead to double-figures, Parkside was able to bring the deficit to 10 points twice in the final quarter, at 8:42 (51-41) and 3:50 (59-49) but the Rangers weren't able to close the gap any further than that. By the end of the quarter, the Timberwolves had grown the gap to 17 points leaving the Rangers behind with a score of 70-53.
STATWORTHY
Cheston led the Rangers with a season-high 17 points with six rebounds, trailing behind Arthur with seven rebounds. 13 of Cheston's 17 points came in the second half. Rahkonen followed with eight points and senior
Georgie Eishold had four rebounds. The Rangers got a big lift off their bench, outscoring the Timberwolves 26-4. The Rangers struggled from the beyond the arc, going 2-of-23.Â
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rangers travel to play the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Jan. 5 at noon. Parkside will return to DeSimone on Jan. 10 to face off against NCAA Division II powerhouse Ashland at 5:30 p.m. This is Military Appreciation night and all members of the military and veterans will receive free admission to both the men's and women's games that night.
