No. 7 Eagles Soar Past Rangers

No. 7 Ashland 108, Parkside 69

The No. 7 Ashland Eagles shot lights out at DeSimone Thursday night as they outscored the Rangers with a score of 108-69. Six of the Eagles players finished the game with double-digits to help push Ashland past Parkside. Tonight was the Rangers' Military Appreciation game, which featured veteran's from Post 21 in Kenosha presenting the colors during the National Anthem.
 
FIRST HALF

Ashland scored the first basket of the game and went on a short 6-0 run that ended by a jump shot made by senior Georgie Eishold. The teams went neck-and-neck until 5:17 when the Rangers tied the game and then took the lead from a jumper by graduate student Ali Bettencourt at 4:22. The Rangers quickly lost their lead, but they were able to stay close to the Eagles as the first quarter ended with a score of 25-21. To start the second quarter, Ashland went on a 6-1 run and later Parkside got within one point of the Eagles at 4:08 with a score of 33-32, but Ashland held the Rangers at 32 points until half time while going on a 14-0 run, bringing the score to 47-32 at the break.
 
SECOND HALF

The third quarter was very back-and-fourth and ended with a score of 77-54, as Ashland grew their cushion 23 points outscoring Parkside 30-22 in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, redshirt-senior Shelby Cheston scored at 7:48 making the score 82-63, but the Rangers wouldn't score again until 4:45 off of two free throws by Bettencourt. Ashland went on to win the fourth quarter 31-15, continuing to stay hot shooting the ball.  
 
STATWORTHY

Although she fouled out with 5:45 left in the fourth quarter, Rahkonen led Parkside with 14 points followed by redshirt-senior Shelby Cheston with 12. Redshirt-junior Taylor Stephen finished the game with season-high six rebounds, closely trailed by Eishold with five. Stephen also had six assists which was tied by Bettencourt. Ashland went +14 in the turnovers and +11 in rebounding while shooting 61.4-percent from the floor and 50-percent from beyond the arc.
 
WHAT'S NEXT

The Rangers host Wayne State on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m, which is Parkside's Corporate Partner Appreciation Day. On Thursday, Jan. 17, Parkside will travel to Lake Superior State to continue conference play.
